SOLO

Paweł Kaczmarczyk – grand piano

From an early age, he was being urged by his fans to play solo concerts – but he avoided this form of expression, saying that only an experienced and mature musician could consciously allow himself such a deep combination of intimacy and sincerity that should undoubtedly accompany any solo performance.

His solo concerts are kind of fairytale, fully improvised, filled with enormous range of emotions, musical space and tension. His sound is leading throughout classic (still very European) and mainly polish jazz but also filled with a bit of trans, world music, film music and a touch of minimal. That is just creativity without any barriers nor plan.

TRIO

Paweł Kaczmarczyk – grand piano
Alan Wykpisz – double bass
Grzegorz Pałka – drums

The trio’s forthcoming album is an emotional story of the recent years, described with piercing melodies, which is an attempt to encapsulate in sound a reality that had a huge impact and contributed to re-validating personal values not only in me, but in many others. In my case, it was a period of darkness, sadness and reflection, in which creativity and inner strength created a space for hope for a better tomorrow. Even though each track on the album is full of personal meaning, I hope that the illustrative nature of music will allow you to create your own musical landscape.” Paweł Kaczmarczyk

When we hear Chopin’s poetics of sound, then the powerful bell-like chords in Rachmaninoff’s compositions, a few bars later we are reminded of Paderewski’s works and Bartók’s harmonic treatments, and immediately afterwards of the colourful spaces of the piano impressionists, we probably find ourselves at a concert by the Paweł Kaczmarczyk Trio.

It would be difficult to characterise his work in terms of genre, as it goes beyond the boundaries of jazz. At the same time, jazz is the genre in which Kaczmarczyk can realise his ideas. His works are characterised by intuition, intimacy, invention and improvisation. If we multiply this by infinity, we will get the key to understanding the compositions and improvisations of this young Polish pianist, who never ceases to amaze with his imaginative and poetic musical excursions. We could analyse them and look for a conflict of new forms – disharmonies, but also harmonic treatments drawing in a highly sophisticated and creative manner from Brahms or Debussy. Or we can simply let ourselves get carried away by the ever-changing stream of music, which the musician creates with incredible lightness.
